Stories I Need to Tell Vol 1

Each volume in this series includes two spec screenplays I have written. In this first volume you will find two screenplays with the theme of female empowerment. The story of Esther goes back to the B.C. period of the Old Testament and tells the saga of a strong, young woman who shoulders the fate and burden of the entire Jewish nation upon her shoulders. While Esther is the story of one historical woman, Top Five is the story of two young women making history through a pageant scholarship program. These are the stories I need to tell.

Stories I Need to Tell Vol 2

Each volume in this series includes two spec screenplays of stories I have to tell. In volume two the focus is on men and the adventures and misadventures they often get themselves into. First up is Vodka, a Vixen, and Vengeance in Vegas, a rouge’s romp through the casinos of Las Vegas and my attempt to combine elements of The Hangover with Ocean’s Eleven. The Longest Subway Ride could not be further removed from Las Vegas—nearly the entire film takes place in the factual and fictional world of the subway system of New York City.

Stories I Need to Tell Vol 3

Each volume in this series includes two spec screenplays of stories I have to tell. In this, the third volume of my Stories I Need to Tell series of screenplay compilations, the theme is faith and humanity in the form of two individuals and their struggle with mortality and living a life full of meaning. Talk is the story of a radio shock-jock who faces mortality while staging a marathon radio program where the topic is his own death. While there is no life and death crisis in Art Life—one man’s journey of self-discovery through the art he creates—there is a crisis of faith. Faith in one’s ability and talent. One man struggles to define who he is as an artist as he faces losing a life-long career and the people who love him.

Loglines: The Long and Short on Writing Strong Loglines

A logline is the spine, the cornerstone, of a screenplay. In 35 - 45 words a writer must be able to distill down the very essence of a film story, including protagonist, antagonist, setting, inciting incident, conflict, and jeopardy. After publishing more than 200 loglines via his blog and social media, King decided to collect the best and publish them along with instructions on how to write a logline that will gain attention. This quick reference guide can be used to learn the art and craft of writing the all-important logline, as well as an inspirational tool for writers or producers searching for their next blockbuster.

The Snugledorfs: Smile, God Loves You!

Authored by Douglas King Illustration by Rodney Matthews

Welcome to the land of Ompadoodle, home of the Snugeldorfs and other fantastic creatures. When we first meet the Snugeldorfs, we find that gloom and sadness has gripped their land so strongly that they believe discontent is with them to stay. But, one sunny day, a traveler from far away brings with him the news that will bring them unexpected joy.

The uplifting message is illustrated with full color paintings by fantasy artist Rodney Matthews. Appropriate for ages 4 – 9. Author Douglas King, has written a wonderful faith-base tale in rhyming verse, similar to Dr. Seuss classics.
